Why we relaunched our website during mercury retrograde (and other retrograde lessons)
Welcome to another Mercury Retrograde
On May 10th, 2022 Mercury stationed Retrograde at 4 degrees of Gemini. Mercury will retrograde until June 5th when it will station Direct at 26 degrees of Taurus. For all of us this retrograde is imitating a process of revealing our truth, initiating us into deeper connection with our voice, and ultimately showing us the path to embodiment of the truth that we discover.
Mercury Retrograde lasts for roughly 3 weeks (plus a week long shadow period before and after) every 3 months. This is one of the astrological events that gets the most buzz and has the most fear and concern associated with it. Mercury rules the things that control our daily lives: commerce, contracts, communication, transit and travel, and even our comfort zone. I like to think of retrogrades as periods when the boss is away. In this case, Mercury is the Boss and he’s gone on holiday. You can’t call. You can’t text. If everything goes South you are left to your own devices and have to figure it out. This can be liberating and it can feel like freedom, but of course, if a new challenge arises and you aren’t sure what to do, it’s really fucking frustrating.
This is why your car breaks down, your sales go sideways, you end up in a lovers spat about whether he would love you if you were a worm. This is why your wifi goes out, your cell phone needs repairing, and your landlord calls you to have a talk. Mercury is no longer sorting out these things in the energetic backend for you and now you have to do some work.
If you’ve been following me for awhile you know that I love this time period. I love the work that arises. I love the space and time that we get to slow down and recalibrate. Because Mercury rules the logical mind, when he’s away we can tap into our intuitive and creative nature more easily. We can feel a little more deeply and we have access to worlds unknown. Mercury Retrograde is a recalibration for our inner worlds — what do I think, what do I feel, how do I communicate my needs and desires, do I like where I live, does this environment feel good? These are the questions we’re asking right now.
So, why did we choose to launch the website when the boss is away, so to speak?
Short Answer: We had to. Because it wasn’t ready when we originally wanted it to be.
Long Answer: We believe in Divine Timing and Synchronicities. The fact that I (Gisele) have been working on this new website and vibe since January and didn’t feel all of the threads come together until the literal first day of Mercury Retrograde felt a bit fated and important. This is extra highlighted because as we speak Mercury is Retrograding over my Natal Sun, which hasn’t happened since 2002 when I was 10 years old. The lessons will land on my doorstep whether I embrace them or not and I like to lean into the mess. This 3 week retrograde period is one of the most important of my life and I don’t want to hide in my home in fear. I want to get out into the world, live my life normally, and see what initiations the Universe brings my way.
This is what I mean when I say that it’s important not to live your life by the cosmos. The cosmic weather will impact you either way - you can check the forecast and bring an umbrella but that doesn’t mean that it won’t rain. Especially when it comes to Mercury Retrograde because the lesson here is one of surrender and trust. After a little mental breakdown yesterday about some things in my life that feel chaotic and out of my control I’m starting to find my centre again and remembering that I can handle anything that is thrown my way.
So yes, launching websites. Signing contracts. Buying phones. Traveling across the world. I have done it all during Mercury Retrograde periods and while it’s been stressful at times, the obstacles and setbacks have made me stronger, wiser, and less afraid of the potentials that retrograde periods can bring.
But then again….
Maybe I spoke too soon. This retrograde is messing with my whole heart + identity this time.
